Complete Course Syllabus

Ten modules that will focus on two elements: injectables, specifically neurotoxins, and fillers. This course is designed to teach practitioners of cosmetic injection a structured approach to viewing a patient’s face as well as knowing when, how and what type of injectable to use to achieve the maximum outcome for the patient with the minimum use of products and procedures.

 

Module 1: Assessment of the Face for Dynamic Wrinkles: Neurotoxin

  • After completing this module, you will be able to:

    • Assess patients concerns and determine cause of underlying issue and determine if Botox, or other neurotoxin, is the answer

    • Assess how much neurotoxin to use and where to place it

    • Determine what will occur to other areas of the face when you treat a specific area

    • Talk to a patient before and after treatment and discuss what progress looks like

    • Talk to patient about common misconceptions and safety of product

    • Understand differences between injecting: male vs. female, young vs. old, and different ethnicities

    • Understand what you can and cannot do if you don’t have access to other items to keep you and your patient safe

Module 2: Upper face: Forehead, Glabella, Crows feet/Lateral Canthal lines, Bunny lines/Nasalis

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand what the patient’s concern is and how to explain treatment plan to patient

  2. Properly treat any single area on the forehead as a whole

  3. Understand and properly treat younger patients – prevention dosage

  4. Determine if you need to treat an additional area to achieve success

  5. Determine how much neurotoxin and where to place it for maximum cosmetic results without dropped or heavy brows occurring

  6. Reduce lines in forehead without affecting the brow area

  7. Determine if patient has the ability to get a brow lift from the procedure

Module 3: Perioral – Lips and Chin

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand how to place Botox, or other neurotoxin, in the upper and lower lip vertical lines

  2. Determine if Botox alone can be effective

  3. Treat a gummy smile – is it possible for a patient to enhance the visibility their lips?

  4. Treat downturning, DAO – Botox alone or need of filler

  5. Provide solutions for cobblestoning and wrinkling of chin, mentalis

Module 4: Neck

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Determine if patient is a good candidate for Botox, or other neurotoxin, in the neck

  2. Pinpoint the cause of concern in this area with the patient

  3. Address the misconception of neurotoxins in the neck

  4. Manage expectations of patient having them understand it takes multiple sessions to see progress

Module 5: Cosmetic Migraine and TMJ

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Determine when to send a patient to neurologist for care and insurance coverage

  2. Ascertain if cosmetic Botox will work for patient in treatment of migraines

  3. Discuss with patient what the process of using cosmetic Botox does to treat migraines and then increasing to medical strength to see if migraine relief occurs

  4. Understand what areas need to be treated and how to treat said areas for both migraine and TMJ relief

  5. Discuss with patient how much, where it will be placed and how many times it will need to occur to see relief from migraine and TMJ pain

  6. Understand when to refer to OMFS for true TMJ treatment as well as bite block, medical evaluation of jaw

Module 6: Assessment of Face for Volume Loss and Laxity: Fillers

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Assess patients concerns and determine cause of underlying issue and determine if filler is the answer

  2. Understand differences between injecting: male vs. female, young vs. old, and different ethnicities

  3. Understand the artistry of facial analysis, DaVinci’s facial ideals, Hinderer’s lines, the Marquardt Face, Phi Proportions

  4. Determine where the problem is coming from and where they need volume to restore youthful look to face

  5. Realize the difference between dynamic and static lines (neurotoxin vs filler)

  6. Which fillers to use where due to consistency, water absorption, G prime, thickness

  7. Get patient to show you what they want during physical assessment at rest and at flex

  8. Understand how treating one area affects other areas for better or worse

  9. Show patient what you are able to achieve through having them hold a mirror and show them what you can do with your fingers or hands moving their face

  10. How to manage complications and assess for vessel occlusion

  11. Determine how little filler you need to make a patient happy with outcomes

  12. How to follow up, put together a treatment plan and discuss the importance of ongoing skincare

  13. When to say no to a patient due to unrealistic expectations

 

Module 7: Midface, Cheeks, Brow and Temple

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand how to assess a patient for filler in the face, Hinderer’s lines
  2. Complete a cheek analysis to figure out where to place filler, deep vs superficial fat pads
  3. Work with caution regarding the vascularity in the temple, infraorbital
  4. How not to overfill, a little filler can make a big difference if placed properly
  5. Understand and explain to patient that filler is for volume, not just to fill in lines
  6. Determine where to place filler to achieve patients desired outcome

 

Module 8: Tear Trough

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand patients concern with injecting in the tear trough
  2. Determine if patient has allergies, skin issues or if they are a candidate for fillers in this area – squinting test for fluid/allergy
  3. Determine when to treat and when not to treat
  4. Ascertain best course of treatment if not candidate for filler: laser, PRP, surgery
  5. Differentiate between fillers and which is best one to use for this area
  6. Determine which filler to use and for what reasons
  7. Learn how to safely inject a potentially dangerous area

 

Module 9: Lips

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the anatomy and proportion of the lips (it’s more complex than you think)
  2. Go from a balloon filler to an anatomy restorer
  3. Understand the different types of filler for this area and how to determine which one to use
  4. Minimize the risk of bruising
  5. Know when not to treat a patient in this area
  6. Explain to patients the benefits of lip filler and how to allay their fears
  7. Understand the five different levels of lip filler and know that it is a matter of millimeters that determines difference between success and failure

 

Module 10: Perioral: Nasolabial Fold, Marionette, Chin and Nose

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand when the nasolabial fold is a concern for the patient but shouldn’t be
  2. Know when to and when not to inject in this area
  3. Learn when other areas need to be injected to make a difference in this area
  4. Understand how much you can improve this area without other procedures
  5. Ascertain if chin needs to be injected to achieve a proper e-line
